We are working on a policy of when it is legally acceptable to use source code generated by LLMs. However, the widely used LLMs are unjust (they are SaaSS; see https://gnu.org/philosophy/who-does-that-server-really-serve.html). We cannot endorse a program which tells people to use an LLM if they want to change it. So released programs should be written to help humans maintain them.
A policy has really no meaning in the GNU project, each GNU package is for all intents and purposes sovergin and can do whatever it wants. Some GNU packages have adopted policies that are not what the GCS states, this isn't the first instance. The GNU Coding Standards is not something that is what the GNU project follows.
