I want all of my ham contact information available to anyone - I want to be able to locate any fellow ham, and I want them to easily find me. That's one reason I'm in a ham club. The way it is/was is fine, and there's no good reason to complicate it (except, maybe, paranoia <https://youtu.be/-Qowmc0P9ic>).
BREAKING NEWS: No crook gives a hoot about your address, phone number, email address and call sign (some 16 year old might want your granddaughter's phone number, but not yours). These are rightly public information and should be easily obtained (and are). Does anyone remember phone books? Believe me, NO ONE is cruising the BVARC member list to get your address (or anything else) unless it's a fellow ham wanting to send you a Christmas card or see your antenna setup. Identity theft involves getting your SSAN, bank account number, passwords, etc. This is a different matter. If, on the other hand, you're concerned about privacy from your fellow hams, maybe you should hide all that *private* info! Then, the rest of us will know you're "one of those guys." I'm not picking on Jimmy, or anyone else. And, I understand many folks fear the "interweb." But folks, as my granddaughter says - CHILL! The ham club roster is not how your stuff gets stolen. 73, Gus Bernard, KG50FB 6006 Valley Forge Drive Houston, TX (ZipCode hidden for privacy concerns) 832-295-4886 [email protected] On Sun, Mar 10, 2019 at 12:50 PM Eddie Runner via BVARC <[email protected]> wrote: > oh, I think I get it Jimmy.. you dont want to hide your info from > everyone, you just want to hide it from non members (or bots).. > so for the public you like the way I have it now, but for members you want > them to be able to contact you.? > Ok, sometimes it takes a while for me to understand.. ha ha > it makes more sense now. > > Eddie (NU5K) > PS, still interested in any other discussion.. > > On Sunday, March 10, 2019, 11:44:02 AM CDT, Jimmy Vance via BVARC < > [email protected]> wrote: > > > It isn't that I want it offline, I just don't want all my personal > information in plain view of the world.
