Alta,
Some initial comments. I still need to drill down into the various
other pages.
Installation Configuration should probably have a link to on-line
documenation.
Perhaps the "How to Administer the Manifest Files for an Install
Service" chapter
from
http://dlc.sun.com/osol/docs/content/2009.06/AIinstall/solarisinstall.html
From the Installing Clients section the following statement should be
changed
to match the Jumpstart wording:
For Automated Installer, set up an install service on your install
server
and then boot the client. The install service can serve clients without
explicit client setup. If you want to provide a custom
configuration, you
can create a setup for a specific client.
Perhaps:
For Automated Installer, set up an install service using <tt>installadm
create</tt> on your install server and then boot the client. The
install
service can serve clients without explicit client setup. If you want to
provide a custom configuration, you can create a setup for a specific
client.
From the Test Install section the following link does not work:
See "How to Review What You Have on Your Server" in Chapter 6
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6566/view
From the Reset the Root Password on the Client for Automated Installer you
might want to have the manifest link again.
For the Comparing JumpStart Keywords and Automated Installer Directives
section
there should be a link again to the manifest subsection and you might
add a note
about changing the manifest name otherwise installadm and the server
will have
issues.
From the Rules keywords and Criteria Manifest Directives section the
link in
the paragraph does not work:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6566/criteria
From the same section within the table the hostname portion for Automated
Installer is incorrect. I think this should be 'No comparable criteria'.
The same link issue is present within the Profile Keywords and AI Manifest
Directives paragraph.
The IPS package section should be done using the new IPS package names.
Specifically, these should be something more like:
<pkg name="pkg:/entire"/>
<pkg name="pkg:/SUNWcs"/>
<pkg name="pkg:/SUNWcsd"/>
<pkg name="pkg:/babel_install"/>
Similar comment for later package sections listing SUNWnew and SUNWfoo
for the
jumpstart column. The same comment for the Equivalent AI Manifest
Directives
subsection.
Thanks,
John

Installers,
We would like to get your comments on some Automated Installer and
JumpStart how-to documentation. This documentation is intended to help you
migrate from JumpStart to Automated Installer. This set of documentation
references the AI guide, but it is more than that. We have tried to
document the entire process around automated install, including setting up
a DHCP server, setting up a local repository, creating an SMF service to do
post-install tasks, etc.
Do you use JumpStart now? Have you tried AI? Specific examples of how you
use AI, or how you use JumpStart so that we can provide specific migration
examples to AI, would be very much appreciated. We would love to get
example JumpStart begin and finish scripts so that we can work on specific
AI solutions for those. We have general descriptions now, but it would be
great to be able to say, "If you did this in your JumpStart begin|finish
script, do it this way in AI."
You can send comments to this alias, or you can comment directly on the
wiki pages.
Please send questions and comments by Friday, May 14.
