If RFA does not respect the Cambodian labor law, it should stop covering
reports on workers demonstrations or strikes against abusive employers.
Indeed, RFA like other companies has every right to lay off or fire workers
but the process should be subject to any legal procedures in force. Workers
have the right to know what the legal reasons are for their dismissal as
well as the right to seek legal recourse. The arbitration council ordered
RFA to follow the Cambodian labor law for the termination of these workers
but due to the non-binding nature of the order, RFA just ignored it. So, the
workers have no choice but to refer to the court. RFA should just show up at
the court hearing and prove the court it was rightful and lawful to fire
these workers without any reason and notice. The cause of RFA is well
respected, but the way it (Khmer Service section) dealt with the grievances
of the workers deserved no respect. Regards, Sothea
