Hi Phlip,

Have you ever worked on life-critical systems? What is
it about them that makes you think XP would not be
suitable?

I have a different opinion, and if I had a bit more
time it is one of the things I would like to write
about, but in the meantime I will just chip in to
counterbalance such statements.

Regarding the original question of XP's applicability,
I like, and agree with, Ward Cunningham's assessment
(http://c2.com/doc/xpu02/panel.html):

"Are there limits to the applicable situations?
Sure. But every limitation I have found to date can
be traced to disagreement with a fundamental
assumption of extreme programming: The purpose of our
  activity is to deliver software."
