Isn't much of the concern that you end up having to support something 
so integral on your own?  Additionally, there may be no guarantee that upgrades 
and bugfixes will be available in the future, though that may literally be the 
case.  Open-source products may face less adoption resistance when they are 
supported by major industry players such as IBM.  That is, the more people that 
have stake in an open source product, the more inherent guarantee there may be 
for a given product.

        I think that part of the reason for open-source software (OSS) to exist 
is that it is cumbersome and risky to start and operate a business, especially 
when you will be competing directly with huge corporations who aren't 
necessarily playing the same game you are (i.e. "I think people will find this 
useful").  So perhaps OSS is a yang in a mutated market.
