Fair point Roger but I did say Narrowboat and yes I have seen such an engine in
a narrowboat. It occured to me to work out the following 75 HP divided by the
tonnage makes it 2.77 HP per ton of boat......in my case I have 4.8 HP per
ton.interesting By the way I am having 2nd thoughts on my max engine revs
pehaps it is maximum of 1,600 rpm 2 to 1 reduction giving a shaft speed of 800
rpm.I can only check when I get back to the UK. Hence the large prop.size.

Where is the need for some of the massive engines fitted in present

Quite simple Chris, my 75hp engine and 9hp bow thruster *aren't
fitted in a narrow boat at all*. They're fitted in a 27 ton, 15m x
4.1m, wide beam boat that I have in France.
