Maybe that's because we were both oars (oh dear that'll prompt
some smart remarks) and we still need a regular fix of exercise.

On our 10 week cruise this summer, I lost weight on the way down
to the Thames, put it back on whilst on the Thames and got
back down again on the way back up the GU. At least the net result
was positive.

One thing I've noticed is that most lock work is done by the ladies and
few walk between locks. In our case Jane can't do the locks (lymph nodes
removed under her arms) so she does the steering when we are negotiating
locks (and I walk between any lock that is up to a mile away).

Is the lady locking convention driven by him-on-the-boat or is it a
lack of confidence in her own ability to steer? (Jane was at first very
unsure but has since become so good that she gets compliments from
other boaters).

Cheers...
