The day canal locks go electronic is the day I put Quidditch up for sale.

For me, locking is part of the pleasure of canal boating. I enjoy and
benefit from the exercise. After a month on the Thames this year I 
couldn't wait to get back to non-manned locks.

And anyway, who said electronic gates don't leak? I saw a couple leaking
on the Thames this year and my guess is that they are harder (and more
expensive) to fix.

Nah. Lets keep the traditional locks if only for the reason that its fun
meeting other locking crews. That would be greatly curtailed if they
were electronic.
