Me too. Actually that's almost the only thing I dislike about them.
Especially when you are filling a lock with no boats in it, or with
just your boat properly tied up. Or emptying a lock at any time.
The Lee locks were really fast when they had lock keepers pushing the
buttons. Now they are tediously slow thanks to the programming of the
automated controls.
Don't you just love the nanny state?
