Going up the Atherstone flight a couple of weeks ago, we discovered there
were at least 13 boats coming down so we only had to work one way. Three
consecutive boats were cruisers that could have fitted in the same lock but
all
decided to took a whole lock each. I took the Christian view that they were so
busy they didn't have time to look around and notice they could have helped
each other to save time, effort (and water) and worked through together.

Mind you, the first one through seemed to be having probs with steering -
possibly due to the balloon fenders they had deployed.
