Date - 3 Oct 06 Day - Tuesday Start - 0900 End - 1820 Snarestone tunnel Yesterdays rain didn't last long and looking across the canal I noticed lots of holes and run marks in the mud. After we had eaten I looked across with my big torch and spotted "Ratty" a water vole nestling just above the water line. A went to show it to Diana but by the time she arrived in the back hatch "Ratty" had left and in his place sat a big brown rat. Later in the evening we saw several more Voles opposite the boat. Magic thought that after last Saturday morning it was quite good to get breakfast at 7 so this morning I got the wet cold nose and rough paw treatment in the left ear hence we set off at 9. It was a sunny clear morning but soon turned cool and damp. A short way along the canal we had a vole swim across the canal in front of us. I have been quite surprised how busy this canal is and we have met several boats throughout. We carried on to the present end of navigation where there was just one space left of the 48 hr visitor moorings which we soon filled. We walked off into Measham, Nicholson said it was a 20 minuet walk, it's actually 40 minuets brisk walking each way. The museum was supposed to be open on a Tuesday but because they were short of volunteers. We went into the Community Office next door where they had a display about the restoration through the town and spoke to the young lady in the office who called the project officer down to talk to us about the work. We then walked down the High Street to see where the town visitor moorings would be on the line of the old canal just behind the Hardware store which was here in the days of the original canal. We walked back to the boat and after a chat with the occupants of the next boat set off back through Snarestone tunnel to moor for the night at the wharf just below the Globe Hotel -- Brian <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
