I once moored at Keadby, waiting a day for the lock. Very
interesting place, but didn't 'feel' too safe on the towpath
(probably was, just a perception), but on the offside are some
permenant moorings which were not all in use surrounded by a 30 foot
high fence with a large gate locked with a BW sanitary station key.

I have never fely more secure mooring overnight, and other visitors
moored there as well, and the local moorees didn't have any issues
with me using this side.

I agree with the comment above re the use of a sanitary station key,
surely the whole point of it to allow boaters accss and no-one else.

A similar situation has occured at Galgate on the Lancaster where a
sanirtary block has been 'appropriated' by BW marinas when the
transfer of assetts was carried out when it should have been
transfered to another location which is in dire need of a sanitary
facility (Glasson Dock). The locks were changed to non-sanitary
station keys.

I can think of another marina who locks the gates at night and opens
them to pedestrians during the day to facilitate towpath access, but
that is on a river, not a canal, and no-one has ever complained, so
as long as the marina concerned opens the gates daily, I think all
will be well. I'm sure the morees who moor there are much happier.

As for the National, perhaps a dinghy would be handy!!
