We will need a wheelchair to use if he is ever to go much further than 100
yards from the boat and we don't have room to take one with us in the car
and it will be a Saturday afternoon arrival when the local Red Cross is
likely to be closed. We have found a hire centre that can help but at £50+
for hire and delivery it seems a little steep. Anyone from the Hilperton,
Trowbridge areas got any ideas?

Could the boatyard collect and return the wheelchair for you if the Red
Cross will be closed when you are collecting and returning the boat? When I
went boating with a broken leg a few years ago on Copperkins, the local
OwnerShips manager collected and returned the chair for me. I had contacted
the Red Cross in that area and had arranged everything . I seem to remember
that the hire of the wheel chair was either free or very modest and I was
glad to send them a donation. Having the wheelchair meant that I wasn't
confined to the boat for the whole holiday.
Re access at Bristol, I seem to recall that access to the mooring pontoons
is via a set of steps but there may be wheelchair access at some other
moorings. The harbour masters there are very helpful and will be able to
tell you.
