I'm sure there are similar products available in the UK but this is one I am
associated with here in Canada. I am not attempting to sell these
particular products just suggesting that there are quality green products
out there that work.

http://www.lordandpartners.com/ecoprod.htm Check out Skone and Super
Green. If either of these products were used the only contaminant you would
have would be the grease and oil you would remove from your boat. The
resultant slop bucket could be dumped on the floor of any garage or service
station that had a three stage oil water separator which would collect the
oil and grease. The left over cleaning properties would likely clean the
shop floor as well.

Subject: [canals-list] Bilge

People are recommending things to mop up the oily water in my bilge but
there isn't any. What I do have is a kind of oily slime which I'd like to
mop out.
Fairy Liquid has been recommended but AFAIAA it contains salt which would be
possibly an unwise substance to introduce into a metal environment.

So, my question boils down to:

1) is there a salt-free detergent I can wash the oily (water-free) gunge off
with?

2) how do I dispose of the resulting bucket of filthy slops in an
environmentally-friendly manner? (*)
