Talk of heading north from Rugby ignores the fact that locks are a big
part of boating and that going that way, all you're going to
experience is the small stop-lock at Hawkesbury Junction. Talk of the
beauty of the Ashby Canal is a little bit irrelevant when time
constraints mean that you won't see more than the first few miles of
it.

Somebody suggested you journey to Norton Junction and back. This
gives the novelty of the three pairs of narrow locks at Hillmorton,
the very different 5 broad locks of the Braunston flight and the
tunnel with its kinks before winding at the junction with the
Leicester Section. It will also give you the opportunity to spend
some time in Braunston itself.
