It has a typical top paddle arrangement for this section of the T&M,
one ground paddle and one gate paddle, both worked from the towpath
side. This makes it slow to fill, but not exceptionally so in my
experience.
It experiences a LOT of traffic at peak times, being between the
marinas to the S like KB and desirable spots like Gt Haywood and
Tixall, and there's a lot of flow from bases like Barton Turns
(Shakespeare), Sawley and Alvecote (both CanalTime) who see the run to
Gt Haywood or Stone as a good one for the novice boater, as indeed it
is.
Most of the time, there's no problem - we've never had to queue for
more than ten minutes, and we are through there quite a lot as it's
between our medical base at Alrewas and the Braidbar yard at Poynton on
the Macc. The trick is to avoid summer Sats, I guess.

There are no strangers on the cut, only boaters we've yet to meet.
