Just an idea, (From not a very knowledgable person regarding IT).

If the problem only started a week ago, could you not go to:
Start(Enter), All Progs(Enter), Accessories - System Tools - System
Restore (To an earlier Date (in heavy type)).  This is what I do when
my PC plays up. 

I also subscribe to a very good program called "PC Doc Pro v4.3." It
keeps my PC tuned up. When it goes wrong, the company will put it
right remotely, all within the annual fee. Excelent service"
