Just an idea, (From not a very knowledgable person regarding IT). If the problem only started a week ago, could you not go to: Start(Enter), All Progs(Enter), Accessories - System Tools - System Restore (To an earlier Date (in heavy type)). This is what I do when my PC plays up.
I also subscribe to a very good program called "PC Doc Pro v4.3." It keeps my PC tuned up. When it goes wrong, the company will put it right remotely, all within the annual fee.
