Ok Steve, this time I went and dug out the Macc Canal Society newsletter. It
seems I was mistaken about the costs not being very great. It states this:
The works at Bosley are funded by a Heritage Lottery Grant (£78.4k) and
moneys from Macclesfield Borough Council's Canal Partnership Grant Scheme
(28.5k). BW contribution is said to be staff time. This will fund the
restoration of
Lock 4 sidepond, restored lock quadrants (lock platforms) at the bottom end of
locks 4, 5 and 6 on both sides, and interpretive panels (no surprises there) to
be sited at top, bottom and by locks 4 & 5.
BW aparently intends to construct a further lock platform outside this scheme
and with its own funds.
