Having done the Maccy years back (when the old stages were there and jumped 
down onto these, then hit the wall due to forward momentum I remember the 
bruises! I'm surprised elf&safety allow new ones. Mind you I suppose after the 
bollard fiasco we know BWs ideas on Elf&safety are a little strange. Mabye they 
will install - then put up warning notices.

Lock platforms were fitted to the lower offside of the lock entrance to make it 
possible to put down or pick up crew from a boat entering or exiting the lock. 
The lock abutments on the Bosley flight are all deeply rounded. In passed times 
it would have been very difficult to work a pair of narrowboats through the 
locks with a crew of two without the platforms.Now of course they are also 
fitted with lock ladders.CKP
