Not very useful advice in the FAQ. All appeared normal externally, no slack or free play. The cable (I hadn't realised these were solid cables, not stranded) had just parted company from the rod at the end. Looks like a clean fracture. Don't think there would be excessive flexing (or, indeed, any flexing of note) with the way the cable was and is installed. Wassail! -- Martin Phillips [email protected]
