Hi John,
We have a '95 270 with a trailer. We bought the boat in Montana 3
years ago. trailered it to Anacortes, WA and sailed the Pacific
Northwest, San Francisco Bay, and this past summer went to Prince
William Sound in Alaska. We have done a lot of trailer sailing with
our Catalina 25 too, but prefer the inboard and our full canvass
package for our salt water sailing now. There is nothing like being
warm and dry! In any case, we hope to meet other Catalina owners
that trailer sail on the west coast. I hope you give trailer sailing
some thought as it is a great way to see lots of interesting places.
When people ask me how fast my boat goes, I respond with a wink and
say, " Why it's the fastest boat on the water. We can do 55 kts -
down the interstate! You do need to get the necessary "Oversize"
permits due to the 9' 10" beam, but it's not too big a problem. We
have a tri axel trailer with electric over hydrolic disk brakes all
around. We tow with an F 250 diesel p.up. and use cruise control a
lot. It's easy to find yourself doing 70 mph trying to keep from
being passed by the "Big Rigs."
What ever you decide, spend time on the water sailing, and you
can't go wrong!
