John, Actually a C28MKII is 1.5' longer and 1.5' wider than a C27.
Here are the interior layouts side by side and scaled to size. http://www.catalina27.org/comps.jpg I took the liberty of showing the C270 V berth with its extension in place and clarified the Captain Quarters by added pillows in the aft state room. I think the C270 and C28MKII are fairly comparable interior wise especially when you start including systems. Exterior wise the share the same rig proportions, hull lines, and walk through transom and Offshore CE rating. The C28 MKII is said to sail a lot stiffer than a C270. The C28MKII spec shows only about 9.5% more sail area but 45% more keel weight.
