I have a Garmin 440 mounted on the binacle. Very happy with it. At first I wasn't, but found out I could download the free updates from the Garmin site. Now it works very good. The only downside is the magnet that holds the SD door closed. The manual says to mount it 37 inches away from the ships compass or at least be aware that a deviation of up to 15 degrees will result. The modern chartplotters are very sensitive to signal. Mine will work in the cabin. An external antenna is more hassle than it is worth. Remember that when it is blowing rain sideways and 40kts of wind with visibility of 50 ft, you need a waterproof unit at the helm, not a computer down below.......IMHO. Don, #6293, Niceville, FL
