PACIFIC LOON BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON MERLIN SANDHILL CRANE LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL ICELAND GULL SAW-WHET OWL NORTHERN SHRIKE TOWNSEND’S SOLITAIRE (Extralimital) HERMIT THRUSH FOX SPARROW EVENING GROSBEAK HOARY REDPOLL Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 12/23: 27 SANDHILL CRANES were seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. Jefferson County ------------ 12/17: The PACIFIC LOON reported last week was relocated in Black River Bay looking south from Pillar Point. It was seen in the same location on 12/20 but has not been reported since. Madison County ------------ 12/18: 30 EVENING GROSBEAKS and a FOX SPARROW were seen at a feeder on Carpenter Road near DeRuyter. 12/23 A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and a NORTHERN SHRIKE were seen in Erieville. Onondaga County ------------ 1218: 1 adult and 3 juvenile BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen along the creekwalk on Onondaga Creek near Carousel Center. All four were seen again on 12/20 and the 3 juveniles were seen on 12/24. They seem to be staying in the area between Bear Street and Hiawatha Boulevard. A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in Manlius at Perry Springs Park. 12/23: A SAW-WHET OWL and a HOARY REDPOLL were spotted at Beaver Lake Nature Center. There were no reports of the RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD in Phoenix this week. Oswego County ------------ 12/19: A MERLIN was spotted at the corner of County Rt.45 and Silk Road in Volney. NORTHERN SHRIKES were seen in Hastings and on W. Fifth Street Road near Minetto. 12/24: Adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED and ICELAND GULLS were seen in Phoenix. Extralimital ------------ The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE found at Sampson State Park on the east side of Seneca Lake (Seneca County) was reported positively on 12/20 this week and a heard only report was posted today. They may not be birds but be on the lookout for flying REINDEER tonight.
