Hi, I never had to draw any diagram for both my R&S and security exams. I didnt practice that way. The lab diagrams are just fine. If you can cope with IPX's diagrams, then the lab's diagrams shouldnt be too hard to figure out.
I skim thru the entire lab book in about 25mins (just to figure out interdependent tasks) VPN+ASA or ZBF/CBAC and NAT etc. I also make notes of tasks and points to know how I am doing. I also make sure I dont spend too much time on any question. Leave difficult tasks to the end. Fix the easy ones while your head is still clear :) I also make sure I reread the entire lab book after I am done and verify each task using show commands. Your show commands MUST match theirs. When in doubt, ask the proctor! Try to finish in 6hrs or less....I personally believe that the reason why people fail without knowing why is because they didnt verify enough. I make silly mistakes like applying policies to the wrong interface, configuring a sec feature on the wrong router (I use a terminal server) etc. All the best Jimmy!
