All,

I personally haven't re-drawn the diagram in any of my attempts either. It
was not something I ever did in practice and if you don't do it in practice
don't do it in the lab. Having said this I will add that it is helpful to
80-90% of the people I speak with so Tolulope and I are definitely in the
minority.

I think that both the comments by Jimmy and Tolulope are in line with the
recommendations I give. The difference in the pre-lab time between the two
recommendations is the drawing of the diagram. Re-drawing the diagram
typically takes 15-20 minutes so if you compare that to both of the
recommendations they are both saying the same thing.

Make sure to use the checklist. So many mistakes can be avoided if you do
that. I don't have much more to say then has already been said.

create your task list. Only mark things done when you are positive you are
finished with the question

Reload the routers right before you go to lunch.

Cherry pick and get a lot out of the way early on. (helps relieve stress
when it starts to become crunch time)

Review the startup configurations at the beginning of the day and do the
troubleshooting tasks first. That way you only have to troubleshoot the lab
problems and not your own self induced troubleshooting

Use alias commands for speed. Reduce time taken to type common commands you
use. Regardless of what anyone says it is a timed test. Speed always helps

save configuration often

If you have inline IPS do it early on

Hi,
I never had to draw any diagram for both my R&S and security exams. I didnt
practice that way. The lab diagrams are just fine. If you can cope with
IPX's diagrams, then the lab's diagrams shouldnt be too hard to figure out.

I skim thru the entire lab book in about 25mins (just to figure out
interdependent tasks) VPN+ASA or ZBF/CBAC and NAT etc.
I also make notes of tasks and points to know how I am doing.
I also make sure I dont spend too much time on any question. Leave difficult
tasks to the end. Fix the easy ones while your head is still clear :)
I also make sure I reread the entire lab book after I am done and verify
each task using show commands. Your show commands MUST match theirs. When in
doubt, ask the proctor!

Try to finish in 6hrs or less....I personally believe that the reason why
people fail without knowing why is because they didnt verify enough. I make
silly mistakes like applying policies to the wrong interface, configuring a
sec feature on the wrong router (I use a terminal server) etc.

All the best Jimmy!

Firstly, Good luck Jimmy! Kick some ass! :)

I don't know how you guys finish so fast..i take full 8 hours.. i must be
doing ssomething wrong. I take about 45 mins to 1 hour to draw the diagram,
skim through all the topics and get ready to start configuring. How long do
you take?

Cheers,

TacACK
