Which kernel and nvidia driver (assuming you're using the nvidia
binary releases)?  Are the nvidia drivers installed as rpms (Axel
Thimm patches his rpms, a handy benefit)?  Anything logged by the
kernel/X when it happens?

If the drivers are being installed via the script, I'd suggest
enabling ATrpms or check out:

and patch your driver.

Also, nvnews.net/vbulletin has quite a few resources.  I know the
"acpi=off" idea is frequently suggested, along with BIOS upgrades, if
applicable.
