I agree.

That is the thing.  The initial plunge is several hundred
dollars.  Someone with no SCSI hardware needs to buy both the
card and the hardware at the same time.  If you only want a
single drive, or scanner or whatnot, it doesn't make any sense to
go SCSI at all IMHO.  SCSI is more a decision to go for more high
end hardware - or at least have the OPTION to do so, and to
expand the upgradeability of your machine as well.

I'd rather go cheap or expensive IDE solution than go cheap
SCSI.  The decision to go to SCSI IMHO is a decision that you
want performance and all the other doodads, and that you're
willing to pay the extra bit.  Once the initial cost it out of
the way, the price difference on peripherals is lost in the gains
IMHO.
