Before coming to work in Belgium, the only place I installed my SuSE was from Internet. You just go to ftp.suse.com or a mirror, get an instalation floppy, boot from it and you are done. All the instalation works over the network. I think it is the same for the other distros. And please don't forget an important thing: you get the sources as well.
