You are right, or far more right than wrong. The
libertarians have
painted themselves into a corner. The problems caused by
Bush II,
even if they are now being dwarfed, can only be solved
with
big government reform, that is, a big gvt group who
wants to
remove the worst excesses while preserving "good big
government/"
In other words, the cure for big government is better
big government
led by people who are comfortable with large scale gvt
institutions.
The libertarians simply don't fit into this picture. As
much as Ron Paul
may have fanatic devotees, even if a
lot of them are smart, the fact is that
the mess we are now in, even if part of the situation is
for the good, intrinsically
cannot be fixed by a tribal council sitting around a
camp fire. Yet that is what
the libertarians offer, and all large scale solutions,
the only ones that have
any chance of working, are rejected on principle.
But what else is new ?
