Dear Ernie, Greatly oversimplified (like my retort below) and exaggerated. I cited Chrysler and GM in the e-mail you chose to ignore, giving nice little SPECIFICS to work with. So I'm going to be a pedantic twit and start there again. :-) Let Chrysler and GM go belly up. Let AIG go belly up. Bust up Fannie and Freddie. This is hardly thinking that they can do no wrong. We have bankruptcy law, use it. Don't impose the settlement upon the participants without due process from the Executive Branch (I think that's unconstitutional, by the way). If a Republican had done what Obama is doing with Chrysler, AIG, and GM, there would be such shrieking, wailing and gnashing of teeth that one could not hear themselves think. Suppose that it were Apple instead of Chrysler. The same thing should happen, right? They've done great "wrong" and should be failed corporations (like Enron, which would probably be with us today if Al Gore had been President and the Democratic party could have thought of some way to get lots of contributions from it), not kept alive at taxpayers expense. Particularly AIG, where most of the money has gone to pay off FOREIGN companies and insuring their losses. The losses of the American Taxpayer, this administration couldn't give a shit about. Hence the deficits for as far as the eye can see. They're all for the "little people" as long as the "little people" wear the union label. This administration wouldn't dare let the UAW go by the wayside, it gives ALL of its contributions to the Democratic Party. Now that they have virtual control of Chrysler, they can vote themselves more dividends at taxpayer expense and give it to the Democratic Party. Great protection racket that they've engineered there. While my taxes go to fund the Democratic Party, albeit indirectly, it's more direct than I would like, and more than I would ever DREAM of giving ($0). Government is evil when bond holders and executives get death threats over LEGAL acts, largely because the President has used the Bully Pulpit (emphasis on BULLY) to rouse the leftist rabble into a nice little rage. Bus tours and protests at AIG Executives homes, isn't that cute? Obama doesn't stand between them and the pitchforks as he claims, but rather Obama ENCOURAGES the pitchforks via ACORN and others. THAT is evil. Government is also evil when it mandates bad business practices with punitive sanctions for not complying. Such as mandating mortgages with no credit check, no money down, and no proof of income, primarily on the basis of race. Fail to comply, and you are a discriminatory lender or a predatory lender. The not so subtle threat: Nice little reputation you have there, I would hate for anything to happen to it. That's basically the same ploy used on the Chrysler bond holders. THAT is evil. Government is good when it sticks to its Constitutional Obligations. And I mean the Constitution as it is written and plainly understood. No shadows, penumbras, or emanations. If one wants a legal right, add it to the Constitution in the prescribed manner. Don't short circuit the process for partisan or ideological purposes. A lot of libertarians and conservatives are comparing this administration with Jimmy Carter. I no longer think that is correct. The correct comparison would be with Richard Milhous Nixon. You have the unwritten enemies list (capitalists and non-union members) versus a written one, and using the tax code (proposed) to limit charitable contributions (can't have the government competing with private charity, government has to have a monopoly) versus audits of political enemies (and that is probably coming).
