I have been following the e-mail exchanges that have been going since morning and it's all good. The fact that we are talking and exchanging ideas is a very good development rather than keeping quite and hope things will sort themselves out. The talking in itself is a very good start; how that talk won't remain mere rhetoric but translated into action let it be a discussion for another day. We all agree that Pempho has raised very pertinent and relevant issues here. Referring and running of the league. You people will agree with me that refereeing is a very important aspect of any game and any mediocre performance by the man in charge leads to grumbling and dissatisfaction. The question of the same faces running the league might not be easy to deal with now because Daud, Jay and George were mandated by BASMAL to run the league on our behalf because of CEZOBAL's poor management. So until such a time when it could be clearly displayed that CEZOBAL is ready to run the affairs of the league (am afraid it's still not) then we can go into the discussions concerning faces and micro management. I have a few suggestions guys that may or may not address some of the challenges that the game is facing at this point in time.
There is need for this transitional executive to call for a meeting to get feedback from teams on how the league is being run. Both positive and negative. Sometimes people assume too much and might not know what exactly is going and why some decisions are being made. I know we have rules that are currently governing our league but there might be a few we could bend without compromising the quality of our league and embarrassing ourselves when we go outside the country. I suggest team captains and opinion pushers like Dan Khomba could be invited. Can the executive consider giving roles to some people (teams to identify people) for tasks. Otherwise we will still be saying the executive wants to do everything and the executive will be saying no one is willing to come forward and assist. I mean people might be willing but they do know what exactly they need to do. For example, on a game day one team could be asked to provide a referee or they risk loosing league points, another team to provide score keepers and so on. There so many tasks that can be shared but I guess we discuss these in a proper meeting like the one I have suggested above. The executive can now be left with the more strategic roles like court maintenance, looking for sponsorship and monitoring how the shared tasks are being managed. Daud, call for meeting of team captains and others on a Saturday after games and lets come up with something all teams should own. Issues that have been brewing for quite some time now and I have to thank you for taking your time and resources to do so. What happened at the court was very unfortunate. It is very sad for us not only as bball players but as human beings to stoop that low. As for this "one decision maker idea" you have, I think it has been addressed before so I wont waste time on it. I will simply advise you to go back to your in-box and you will find well written emails that will answer all your questions. If you don't have them please let me know I am willing to create a folder for you. What worries me Pempho is this idea of shunning meetings because you are frustrated that things are run by the same pple. This is a sad development. Help me understand this, how will this decision help this game we all love? Wouldn't you agree that maybe if you had shared your sentiments early enough maybe some of the tension and misunderstandings would have been avoided. You could have helped by mobilizing some pple who share your sentiments to submit their resumes for the elections or submit your own. I have a belief that you know for a fact that its not easy to run this league. I know for sure that the executive does not enjoy the burden that they have. It's a blessing and a curse if you ask me. As we all know, they use their resources to make things happen. They sacrifice time away from their loved ones just to make this dream we have of making the league successful a reality. They do this on a daily basis not just over the weekend. So please show some respect and be grateful by going out of your way in lending a helpful hand. If anyone thinks that they can do things better, please wait for the next elections. Until then, ideas are always welcome as long as we follow the proper channel's. Do not be reactive but rather be proactive. --- On Tue, 9/30/08, Pempho Kanjadza <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: From: Pempho Kanjadza <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: {CEZOBAL} Re: Results of Games on 27/28 Sept To: [email protected] Date: Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 5:17 AM My thought is: We can agree to nominate players whom we would wish to be refs, we can do this by: a) Committee can chose or point out those that they feel can manage and have the apppropiate skills b) Individual teams can from their respective teams nominate two players that they think can do the work c) On a suturday before or after games, all players present, we can hold sort of a meeting and nominate players irrespective of which team such a nominee originates from. d) We can allow people to nominate themselves. This group of nominated players then, on a set date have a training session with you guys that went to BT for training. You share with these guys what you learnt and thay way things gonna get better. From this then each and every game, prior to the start of the game, be assigned refs at the fixture drawing level so that we should well know in advance who the refs are to a particular game. Its just a matter of making rules known and understandable to the aspiring refs. The other thing is that, at a certain point, it seemed everything was to be done by the same kind of people. The cezobal committee was the same representing Basmal, peolpe were frustrated with this if you din't know. League decisions and rules seemed to changed because of what it seemed a one man decision making policy. Most of us players gave in, tinazisiya coz ours voices then weren't heard. Most of us did not show up to the meeting that was supposed to take place to chose a CEZOBAL committee, the above being the reason. I believe its time for things to change and develop this game in LL. Its not for one man, or a single group of men, but its for each and every player, let your voice be heard, now its the time. Lets forget the differences taht we have and come together as a team. If you recall my earlier email, i was talking about the same thing that people do not like to come and help out other games..I am sure Geoff came to watch the game and not to ref and HE WAS THE ONLY PERSON available when time came to start the game. Given this, 1)The game still stands as a league 2)Officiation is not used to decide whether a game is a friendly or a league one.its the fixture that decides that and it has to be honoured. When the fixture is done, no ref is assigned to a game just Ref Commisioners who are Bvuto Chintengo, Lonje Maliro and Daud. Am sure you have seen only Daud and Bvuto reffing games. with Daud playing and Bvuto gone after his game earlier in the day, who then could possibly ref that game? .. Let me challenge you Pempho to help us finding ways of getting better refs available for the games, i would like to hear from you what your views are on that. League ndiya tonse...
