Guys it is interesting to read all the comments, views, opinions,
critiques, ideas....you name them.
I just want to remind each other that where there is development
these things will always be there....we cant run away from that
because through these controversies, critiques and so forth, comes
brilliant ideas to forge ahead.

i therefore request that with due respect and appreciation of each other's
contribution, we should view these developments and dialogue as being more
beneficial than harmful. If we critically look at what each one is saying we
will
find that we are all saying the truth. Like some have said, the committee should
look at the most constructive ideas and adopt them....some of such ideas may
come
in in somewhat offensive tones but they are still good ideas anyway.

Mind you, just as we may feel frustrated by some of what the committe does or
how they do these things....we also frustrate them in so many ways as they try
to improve OUR LEAGUE....(pepani paja ine ndi wa ku South)...refusing to ref
games,
refusing to be on the score board, coming very late for games, no interest in
other
teams games apart from our games...so many ways...its like on the court we just
like going forward to score and very reluctant to come back and do the donkey
defence work....you want someone to do that for you...

It surprises me sometimes when at the end of each mail we all say "OUR LEAGUE,
or
FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME, or NZOTHEKA....ndaiwala zina....yet of all the things
that
OUR LEAGUE has 99% of us want to do one part of the league....play basketball
game...
and leave the rest of the :"off the court duties/responsibilities" of the
league to a few
and expect that they will meet everyones expectations.

If its OUR LEAGUE then be part of it thru and thru.....

Results of Games on 27/28 SeptTo: [email protected]

Friends
when i go through these emails two questions come to my mind. Am i doing a good
or bad job as the chairman for CEZOBAL? Your are the best judges. But am happy
to see the little things that are there comparing from where there was nothing.

About the the same faces both in Basmal and Cezobal its true. Am not happy for
this to be this way. Am ready to step down now, if someone comes forward to
take over.if anyone of you is frustrated and yet not came forward for elections
then you can find a name (adjective) to call yourself.

Remember its the same faces you dont like that came up with the idea of this
forum which never exited. And now you have the privilage of expressing your
views. its the same faces you hate that have put in place a proper league after
so many years of nothing. its the same faces that have frustrated you and has
the attached trophy for you to compete.

I hope by the end of this season you guys will be ready to run Cezobal.

About one person making decisions, i know people have said this many times and
pointing at Daud. Daud has never made a decision alone as regards to policy.
even the things he is mandeted to make decision alone as GS he consult.
The rule at hand that many from one particular team dont like is the
registration of 12 players not 15. It was deliberated at basmal level and it
was agreed to stand because we can not afford to have 3 players not listed for
a game with our small leagues.
The fiba rule states that a team can register 15 players but only 12 can dress
for a game. the 3 do not even get listed on the score sheet. numbers for
jesseys starts from 4-15 basi!

For your information, its not Daud and Jay in Cezobal, but are the two who make
themselves available at the expense of their families, businesses, and many
more. We have George, ask him what he do apart from once coming to orginise the
games and coming to play for his team and go.
Just few weeks ago, we have encorporated Mr Mafuleka after being mandeted by
BASMAL for his only EOI and he is always there yet he has never played the
game. we have given him to look into fundraising because thats his strenght. He
has so far contributed alot as to how we can fundraise.
We have Dan Khomba, he is not a player in our league yet He is the one behind
secondary school league. He came forward with ideas and we asked him to take
charge, so far so good. And we are always there to support him.
We have Mwatha, apart from being a player he has the responsibility of website
www.cezobal.com . He developed it and administers it. unfortunately we are the
same people not helping him with information. Who many times has request of
team and players information be sent to him? How many of us have even said
'thank you'.

For many times we have asked well trained people in the league to come up with
better designs and ways of improve our court. so far none has come up with
anything. How do you expect Daud a computer guy and Jay a noboby in the society
to come up with better ideas?

Am not being personal here

Mr Chidaya, brilliant ideas, infact when we called for the elections you were
the first person i thought would come up to be part of the leadership team
because i know you can do it. On the issue of calling a meeting, i am afraid
that few will come up based on experience.
May i suggest that we use this forum for feedback. everybody to air out views
on how best we can go forward. or through this forum all captains in the league
assure us that they will come up if a meeting is called. Its frustrating to
call for a meeting and you see Daud and Jay only present.
May i invite you to be part of the committee, they is alot you can bringforth
to improve our league. I will wait for your reply.

Pempho, you have listed brilliant ideas on how best we can improve officiation.
I agree with you. We have taken them on board, but we need people to help in
that. May i invite you into the committee and i garantee you our full support.
Your responsibility will be on officiation because of the great vision you
have. I will wait for your positive reply.

If we could all come up together with our gifts, talents, experience and
resouces basketball can become a number one sport in malawi in few years.
If we let the game to die, what will our young brothers and sister, our
children and grand children do when they reach the time to enjoyed basketball
the way we deed? Lets not think of only today, but many years to come. we are
the ones to lay the foundation.

eh ndatopa ndikulemba

Love for the game

Jay

I have been following the e-mail exchanges that have been going since morning
and it’s all good. The fact that we are talking and exchanging ideas is a very
good development rather than keeping quite and hope things will sort themselves
out. The talking in itself is a very good start; how that talk won’t remain
mere rhetoric but translated into action let it be a discussion for another
day. We all agree that Pempho has raised very pertinent and relevant issues
here. Referring and running of the league. You people will agree with me that
refereeing is a very important aspect of any game and any mediocre performance
by the man in charge leads to grumbling and dissatisfaction. The question of
the same faces running the league might not be easy to deal with now because
Daud, Jay and George were mandated by BASMAL to run the league on our behalf
because of CEZOBAL’s poor management. So until such a time when it could be
clearly displayed that CEZOBAL is ready to run the affairs of the league (am
afraid it’s still not) then we can go into the discussions concerning faces and
micro management. I have a few suggestions guys that may or may not address
some of the challenges that the game is facing at this point in time.

There is need for this transitional executive to call for a meeting to get
feedback from teams on how the league is being run. Both positive and negative.
Sometimes people assume too much and might not know what exactly is going and
why some decisions are being made. I know we have rules that are currently
governing our league but there might be a few we could bend without
compromising the quality of our league and embarrassing ourselves when we go
outside the country. I suggest team captains and opinion pushers like Dan
Khomba could be invited.

Can the executive consider giving roles to some people (teams to identify
people) for tasks. Otherwise we will still be saying the executive wants to do
everything and the executive will be saying no one is willing to come forward
and assist. I mean people might be willing but they do know what exactly they
need to do. For example, on a game day one team could be asked to provide a
referee or they risk loosing league points, another team to provide score
keepers and so on. There so many tasks that can be shared but I guess we
discuss these in a proper meeting like the one I have suggested above. The
executive can now be left with the more strategic roles like court maintenance,
looking for sponsorship and monitoring how the shared tasks are being managed.

Daud, call for meeting of team captains and others on a Saturday after games
and lets come up with something all teams should own.

Pempho,

You have addressed issues that truly needed attention. Issues that have been
brewing for quite some time now and I have to thank you for taking your time
and resources to do so. What happened at the court was very unfortunate. It is
very sad for us not only as bball players but as human beings to stoop that low.

As for this "one decision maker idea" you have, I think it has been addressed
before so I wont waste time on it. I will simply advise you to go back to your
in-box and you will find well written emails that will answer all your
questions. If you don't have them please let me know I am willing to create a
folder for you.

What worries me Pempho is this idea of shunning meetings because you are
frustrated that things are run by the same pple. This is a sad development.
Help me understand this, how will this decision help this game we all love?
Wouldn't you agree that maybe if you had shared your sentiments early enough
maybe some of the tension and misunderstandings would have been avoided. You
could have helped by mobilizing some pple who share your sentiments to submit
their resumes for the elections or submit your own. I have a belief that you
know for a fact that its not easy to run this league. I know for sure that the
executive does not enjoy the burden that they have. It's a blessing and a curse
if you ask me. As we all know, they use their resources to make things happen.
They sacrifice time away from their loved ones just to make this dream we have
of making the league successful a reality. They do this on a daily basis not
just over the weekend. So please show some respect and be grateful by going out
of your way in lending a helpful hand. If anyone thinks that they can do things
better, please wait for the next elections. Until then, ideas are always
welcome as long as we follow the proper channel's. Do not be reactive but
rather be proactive.

My thought is:

We can agree to nominate players whom we would wish to be refs, we can do this
by:

a) Committee can chose or point out those that they feel can manage and have
the apppropiate skills

b) Individual teams can from their respective teams nominate two players that
they think can do the work

c) On a suturday before or after games, all players present, we can hold sort
of a meeting and nominate players irrespective of which team such a nominee
originates from.

d) We can allow people to nominate themselves.

This group of nominated players then, on a set date have a training session
with you guys that went to BT for training. You share with these guys what you
learnt and thay way things gonna get better.

>From this then each and every game, prior to the start of the game, be
>assigned refs at the fixture drawing level so that we should well know in
>advance who the refs are to a particular game. Its just a matter of making
>rules known and understandable to the aspiring refs.

The other thing is that, at a certain point, it seemed everything was to be
done by the same kind of people. The cezobal committee was the same
representing Basmal, peolpe were frustrated with this if you din't know. League
decisions and rules seemed to changed because of what it seemed a one man
decision making policy. Most of us players gave in, tinazisiya coz ours voices
then weren't heard.

Most of us did not show up to the meeting that was supposed to take place to
chose a CEZOBAL committee, the above being the reason.

I believe its time for things to change and develop this game in LL. Its not
for one man, or a single group of men, but its for each and every player, let
your voice be heard, now its the time.

Lets forget the differences taht we have and come together as a team. ONE BIG
TEAM....
