We've actually had temporary servers at desktops, but now all of our new
machines are rack mounted <looks across office at 4 rack machines waiting to
be installed>
It's all down to trust - if you want to put your trust in a non-branded
machine (which 95% of the time are fine) then you can do so
For start-up companies who don't have the money for big server hardware,
then this is the way to go - if you're running with a new PC budget that
will cover a big-name machine, then it'll be more trust-worthy paying for a
REAL server (rather than any old motherboard in a rack casing) - saying
this, even Dell and Compaq machines die, so you can't rely on it being 100%
no matter the make.
