I sort-of disagree. In the martial arts areas, there are many lethal and
non-lethal weapons sold soley for the purpose of demonstration and/or
collection. Some of the swords can cost thousands of dollars and are meant
for serious collectors. At that price, they have little value in being
purchased as a purely lethal weapon as is your typical "Saturday Night
Special" .38. The expensive collector weapons can certainly be used in a
lethal manor, but they aren't sold to be used as such.

It's the same with some guns. I have an old pump action .22 rifle. This is
not a weapon I would use to commit a crime (a pump action .22? come on ..
what am I going to do, rob a squirrel's winter nut stores? hehe). I have it
because, 1. It was a gift from my grandfather, and, 2. Because it's not
without some value. It's fun to shoot, though :). It has more value as
something to collect than as a weapon to cause harm. I keep it securely
locked up in one of those big-@ss gun vaults bolted to the garage floor,
like was mentioned before. I don't see anything wrong with owning a
potentially 'lethal' weapon in this fashion.

So again .. the question is, sure it's a gun, but what's wrong with it, as
long as it is repected for what it really is and what it can do, and is
handled in a very responsible matter?

In the case of the columbine shootings, the kids had access to a gun vault
without parental supervision. Why? *That's* the problem .. not the weapon
itself. In my opinion, the weapons used weren't handled and kept in a
resonsible manor by the owners of those weapons charged with their care. It
all comes back to responsibility, no? :)

No kidding .. that's why my 'brand new' 1999 Honda only has 13,000 miles on
it. hehe
