I don't think all babies should be circumcized. Just Jewish ones. I'm not
sure what Ben thinks, but I have a feeling he'd agree.
As for the questions you asked before, about the issue of one not being a
Jew if one is not circumcised, I'm sorry if that's what you got from my
explanation. A Jew is a Jew from the moment he is born, whether he is
brissed or not. But being circumcised is considered a _Very_Big_commandment
and one that is closely aligned with Jewish identity. For centuries, Jews
lived (and died) to do this mitzvah -- there are numerous historical
examples of anti-semitic rulers outlawing the bris and Jews electing to do
it in secret, endangering their lives and the lives of their children. So
while there may be health reasons associated with this mitzvah, the health
reasons are not the reason we do it. If tomorrow they found that it caused a
greater risk of cancer, I'd do it anyway. What it comes down to: G-d
commanded me to do this, it signifies that I am part of the Jewish people,
and that's why I do it. I trust G-d more than I trust science.
