Pretty much any type of wooden structure wrapped in something they can
really get their claws into, like carpet, will do. They make fancy carpet
covered scratching post/play houses that you can buy at most pet stores.
One thing to remember is, cats are picky. We got one for our cat .. did he
use it? No .. he prefered using a plain piece of carpet that we had left
over from building our house. Go figure.

Catnip is kinda like a drug for them .. think of it as kitty pot. Most like
it, but some don't. They don't need it, but it's good for your amusement
and your cat's, hehe. Give some to your kitty and watch her role around the
floor like she's stoned, heh.

Don't worry about weird behavior. All cats have some strange wiring in
their heads that only they understand. My cat used to come in the room
every morning at 5:30, walk around the top of my pillow, stand above my
head, look down at me upside down, touch his nose to mine, and then blow air
out his nose is short purring puffs until he woke me up. My boss had a cat
in the office. It was one messed up animal. I think it was scitzophenic.
The cat would just be laying in the floor and then all of a sudden, jump up
and run and then turn around looking all wide-eyed, like something was after
it. Then it would just walk off into another room, like nothing had
happened. A few minutes later it would come tearing through the office at
full speed for no reason .. It was most entertaining.
