Something like this happened out west somewhere earlier this year. This guy
was in a bar, having a few drinks, minding his own business. This other
guy, who had also had a few, came up to him and said a few choice words. He
was obviously looking to cause trouble. Well, an argument ensued. It ended
without a physical confrontation (I think). Anyway, the trouble-maker left
the bar and everyone just assumed that was the end of it. Later that
evening, the guy who started the argument comes back to the bar with a gun
and just shoots the other guy dead on the spot. There was a fair amount of
time between the argument and the shooting, so it wasn't a "heat of the
moment", or self defense thing .. it was premeditated murder.

What did the first guy do that caused the argument to begin with? He wore a
cap with the number of his favorite NASCAR driver on it and the guy who shot
him, obviously, wasn't a fan of that particular driver.

Now that's just scary. Think about that next time you decide to participate
in an argument, or even try to escalate it into some type of physical fight.

Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't stand up for what you believe in, but
is admiration of one particular sportsman over another worth standing up for
and fighting over to the point that you kill someone or get killed? I would
have to say no .. unless it's not about the hat and more about both people
not wanting to look like a wuss .. and then I would still have to say, um ..
no.

If someone attacks me, then I will definately defend myself, but I'm not
stupid enough to try to fight someone who is actively looking to start a
fight. That's just dumb.

Then again, we are just animals and animals do this sort of thing all the
time. It's all about territory and being the alpha male, I suppose. Then
again, I would hope that humans would be able to rise above that sort of
thing and not just act like a bunch of animals, driven by hormones to the
point that we forget all of the reasoning that have made us the dominant
species on this planet .. abilities that most other animals don't have.
Then again, most other animals don't kill each other durring these
confrontations .. at least not intentionally. With other animals, most of
the time, it is just by accident.

We are the only species on the planet that wars amongst itself, other than
ants. The ants have an excuse though .. they do it for survival. We
usually do it because we don't like what someone else thinks, or don't like
what they look like, or some other stupid reason. I am continually amazed
at the cruelty one human inflicts on another out of sheer hatred and the
disturbing desire to see the other suffer and die. If it weren't for our
intelligence beyond other creatures that have lived on this planet, then we
probably would have been a doomed species and died off a long time ago .. we
still might not make it .. you never know =-/

People usually fight because they want to .. not because they have to. I
know this isn't always the case, but 90% of the time, it's just because "we
like it". Almost all wars/individual fighting amongst people have been/is
over ideology and not survival. You don't like me? Fine. You want to tell
me about it? Fine .. whatever makes you feel better. I personally don't
care. It's not enough of a reason for me to risk any personal injury over.

Every other animal has the common sense not to go around fighting amongst,
and killing others of its species, for no good reason. What does that say
about us? *sigh*
