>Why?

"cause there ain't no cure for the summertime blues"
-- to be clear i refer to the following line(s):
I called my Congressman and he said quote/
I'd like to help you son, but you're too young to vote.

>What if they don't want to.

What if a 14 year-old wanted to join the Marine Corps? Should he/she be allowed to? Of course not, there are minimum standards that are set. Physical maturity as well as standards of education.

>I was an emancipated minor. I have worked since age 14.

And you seem to have done quite well for yourself. Unfortunately, your situation as an emancipated minor leaves you in a sort of minority limbo. The lawmaking bodies of this and previous administrations have deemed that the vast majority of 14 year-olds are not of an age of responsibility.

Me, for instance I was a mess at 14. Wouldn't have lasted on my own. (i'm good now though, thanks for asking ;-) )

And FWIW, aren't "special conditions" unconstitutional? In other words, if we allow _this_ 14 year old the vote but not _that_ one, what's to stop us from denying the right to vote to _this_ 28 year-old? What standard should we use to test? Oh, that's illegal too...civil rights acts being what they are and all...

>Why can't I vote?

Because there has always been a strange sort of double standard of one sort or another. At least now you can join the Army at the same age as voting...though you still can't get a drink...
