No, we're bringing up the race issue because the same laws, specifically
the 14th amendment, that struck down discrimination based on race, also
cover discrimination based on sexual orientation.

A lot of light skinned black people hid their race by "passing" as
white. They usually ended up ostracized by both whites and blacks. Are
you suggesting that gays should mimic this behavior and go back into the
closet?
Regardless of why anyone is being denied their civil rights, that denial is
wrong. The same arguments that were used to deny rights to blacks are now
being used to deny rights to gays. When we start making laws that strip
people of their rights, we open up the legal system to denial of rights to
anyone that those who are power desire to oppress.
