Running deficits is not necessary of bad and it's not necessarily the by
product of poor decisions.
Sometimes, the global economy get is a downturn. When interest rates are
low it's actually better to run deficit and borrow as much cheap money as
you can. I'm not an economist so I don't fully understand the relationship
between GDP growth, deficit, and personal income. I do know that it would
be considered simplistic to equate deficit with poor economy. All the core
numbers, sans manufacturing, have been getting better and faster then
expected. Case in point, the consumer confidence index came in with strong
growth. The Fed had to raise the Fed Funds rate a quarter point to stem
off inflation.
PS Larry, I'm a Yankee fan which is why I would love to see Bush run the
Red Sox.
