the electoral college is viewed by sparsely populated western states
as a means of making sure that their concerns are taken into account.
Were it not for the electoral college, nooooooooobody would bother
campaigning in New Mexico for example.

Where Gore's beef SHOULD be is at the electoral college. Its far
outlived its usefulness. The founding fathers basically inserted it as
a hedge against the possibility that we, the people, popularly elected
a jackass as a prez. Its time to count the popular vote and leave it
at that.

The irony is that contrary to it's intended cause, the electoral
college may have elected the jackass, whereas the popular vote merely
elected a weener :)

Gore:  It can't be healthy for a man to hang on so much to the past.  He
reminds me of ex-athletes that just can't let go of past glory.

I was watching CNN and one of the analysts made a point that the Tennessee
delegates were not as respective to Al Gore as one might have
anticipated.  I think I have not hidden my opinions about Al Gore on this
list.  He didn't support Clinton when it represented a risk to his
campaign.  The delegates from his own home state seemed rather luke-warm to
him.  I'm never sure where he stands on issues or policy.  If his greatest
attribute is "He is not Bush."... I'm not sure someone like that is fit for
  the White House.

I am somewhat surprised the DNP asked Gore to speak.  While Gore does
remain a publicly recognizable component of the DP, his influence within
the party was rumored to have been at an all time low.  I don't think he
  can move the swing votes.

The other questionable move was holding a 9/11 remembrance.   Remember
there are some ppl that believe that AL-Queda threat was ignored by both
the Clinton Administration as well as the Bush Administration.  Futhermore,
I always felt these conventions were a time of celebration and honoring the
primary tickets.  It looks like this race is that important that the DP are
willing to take on some risk.________________________________
