Does the cat have a scratching post or two? That can help. We also
trim our cat's claws every week. That can cut down on the damage a
lot.

Declawing is not right. Its the same as having the tips of your
fingers to the first joint cut off. As an alternative, you can get
caps for the claws. Erika and Phil tried that with their cat, and it
seems to work.
