I don't think there's a direct answer to that.

I get in different "modes" of depression.  For some, it's better to be
around people.  For others, it's better to be by myself.

I'll say this: if the thought of being around others is merely
unappealing, go out.  You may find that it lightens your mood.  And, if
it doesn't, you can always go home.
