Tony.  You have a point, and I do believe every follow-up made valid points as well.  And you know what, all of a sudden, I realize language sort of "evolved" around the strength of a nation as well (thinking loud here), because when it's us centered, it does make sense to express the fact as the author did, which initially I did not recognize, does that mean I'm not a qualified American? :)
