Larry made my point for me. I don't believe we could destroy the NK threat with air power and I think NK knows that and has used it as leverage. Here my view of the tactical environment: 1.) NK's tunnels prohibit a successful aerial assault. I believe this is almost the sole reason why the military is pushing a nuclear tipped bunker buster - they need it for NK, but can't say so publicly. 2.) Any use of airburst nukes such as tomahawks, MIRV'd ICBMs, Harpoons, etc would send mountains of radioactive material into South Korea, China, et al. 3.) Any invasion would have to decisive in less than a week and would have to disable all ICBMs, nukes, and troops or South Korea would be invaded and nukes would be launched. Only nuclear weapons or an overwhelming infantry assault could do this. You'd probably need close to 1 million troops, maybe (probably?) more. The bottom line with North Korea is, we're f'd. I believe Mr. Clinton's strategy is about the one that will be successful - it's basically appeasement. If we could get a true coalition including China and NK's neighbors, we may be able to muscle them down and get inspectors in to disarm them, but we'll need to do that while guaranteeing Kim Jong Il's rule by sending them lots of money and then leaving them alone. I don't see another alternative - maybe I'm missing something? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| This list and all House of Fusion resources hosted by CFHosting.com.
