Well, that I would say is a big part of it, Bush stayed exactly where he has
been for a while.

But the Democrats as group went with a candidate farther to the left than
Gore. It seems to me, that if you want to counter a conservative president,
the last thing you do is go farther to the left, you come closer to the
middle so you can pick up more the middle ground people.

That way you have four years, and maybe 8 to get a few democratic ideas in,
and then force the republicans to come back.

won precisely because he did not compromise and he did not admit
error. Hrm. Have to try to find that link.

But I agree, I think a third party would be a great idea. In a lot of
ways, I think the Democrats lost this election, in (possibly large)
part by taking their constituencies for granted. Perhaps a fresh start
would provide a better alternative for everyone.
