As for trying to leverage Arafat, you have no idea of the cultural mentality
of the middle east. Arafat is NOT seen as a hero of peace. He's seen as a
hero of armed struggle. Invoking his name leads to attacks in his name:
" The armed wing of Fatah on Thursday announced its decision to change its
name from the Aksa Martyrs Brigades to the Brigades of Martyr Yasser
Arafat."
