Nah its not that hard man. Some people want to make it sound like it was a flop but its not. Sure it wasn't perfect, just like itunes wasn't perfect by not letting you redownload music for free (like Napster does btw). But this was the first major hit game that has tried it. I think it went pretty damn well compared. I was playing the game at 3:10 AM. I had like 20 minutes where the auth servers were offline being worked on but thats not bad in my book. I don't care if it lets valve make more money, i say GREAT. I wish the developers made more money because then they have the $$ to make another great game. Publishers don't do jack shit in the big picture except market the game. If game developers can publish their own games without needing a publisher think of all the little games you can get out there? I use another online client that let me download a few great games online. I think its the future and i embrace it.
I had thought that maybe they should lower the price for online distribution because you cut cost because you don't have the cds now. After thinking about it i say leave the price the same because they will need bandwidth for their servers and the other costs of keeping the authentication model stuff running. I also say they hardwire the files you download to your account so you can't pass them off to other people so they can hack and reverse engineer them without getting their own copy.
